ABSTRACT
In this paper, we examined the impact of global food crisis on African political economy. The study was guided by the following research questions: Is the promotion of trade liberalization by the western developed states linked to unequal development strategies of food production adopted by African states? Is there any link between global food crisis and rising international oil price? The broad objective of the study was to explore the impact of global food crisis on Africa. This study has the following specific objectives: To determine whether the promotion of trade liberalization by the Western developed states linked to unequal development strategies of food production adopted by African states. To explore whether there is a link between global food crisis and rising international oil price. The study also relied on the theory of interdependence as put forward by Nye. The fact is that any relationship between the highly industrialized nations and the poor states is bound to materialize into dependency rather than interdependence. This study relied on secondary sources of data which includes published books, journals, periodicals or archival records, articles from magazines, newspapers, and internet websites dealing on global food crisis. Chapter two explored the historic causes of global food crisis. Again the study was predicated on the following hypotheses: That the promotion of trade liberalization by the western developed states is linked to unequal development strategies of food production adopted by African states in chapter three. We noted that that there is a link between global food crisis and rising international oil price, we proved this in chapter four and we concluded the study in chapter five and made some key recommendations.
