ABSTRACT

This research work was on library staffs’ job satisfaction with heads of Units decision making styles in University of Uyo libraries. 13 heads of units and 36 library staff of the institution were involved in the study. The research design used for the study was the survey design. The instrument used to collect data from the heads of units and library staff was the questionnaire and it consisted of 21 items. Simple percentage was used to analyze the data collected through the distributed questionnaires.  Two research questions were asked based on the variables: Decision making of heads of units and job satisfaction of library staff. The results obtained in the study showed that 83.3% of the respondent of library staff are satisfied when their boss consult them in taking a decision concerning staff matters, 100% of the staff are happy when their boss sought their opinions on an issue concerning them and 61.5% of respondent on staff’s view not considered when taking a decision about them. 80.6% of library staff are happy when they are being involve in decision making concerning their matters. It was concluded that, democratic leadership style should be used by the heads of units in decision making on staff matters so that they should be happy in carrying out duties in the library. Recommendation was that, library staff should be involve in decision making that is related to them so that they should be continuously satisfied in performing duties in the library; Every suggestion, view and opinion made by the library staff should be consider during decision making concerning the staff, heads of units should pay attention to staff’s idea and contribution before decision making on staff matters.
